(June 13, 2026) A welfare check prompted by tips from concerned community members led to the arrest of two Fort Pierce caregivers after St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered what investigators described as “horrific and hazardous living conditions” inside a home where an elderly resident was being cared for.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Corporals Drawdy and Jones met with citizens on June 12, 2026, who expressed concerns that an elderly individual was being neglected. Patrol deputies and investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, deputies encountered conditions they said posed an immediate threat to the victim’s health and safety.

Investigators reported that the elderly resident was found covered in feces inside a home littered with dog urine and feces, soiled diapers, and an overflowing toilet. Authorities described the residence as being in a deplorable and severely unsanitary condition.

During the investigation, detectives identified Prolancia Perry, 31, and Giovany Perry, 27, both of Fort Pierce, as the individuals responsible for the victim’s care. Both were arrested and charged with elderly neglect, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim was transported by the St. Lucie County Fire District to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Sheriff Richard Del Toro praised the residents who alerted authorities, saying their actions may have prevented the situation from becoming even worse.

“Protecting our most vulnerable residents is a responsibility we take seriously,” Del Toro said. “The conditions our deputies and detectives encountered were unacceptable. I commend the concerned citizens who spoke up and the deputies and detectives who acted swiftly to ensure this victim received immediate care and protection. If you suspect abuse or neglect, report it. One phone call can save a life.”

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone who suspects elder abuse or neglect to contact law enforcement or appropriate protective services.
