An Annapolis woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a frightening road-rage incident on U.S. Route 50 that authorities say escalated into a felony assault involving a firearm.

Maryland State Police announced that Kaila Crews, 29, of Annapolis, was taken into custody on New Year’s Eve 2026 following a weeks-long investigation into the December incident. Crews is charged with first- and second-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. She was transported to the Jennifer Road Detention Center, where she remains in custody.

The investigation began on December 18, 2025, when troopers from the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack responded to a report of a road-rage confrontation on westbound U.S. Route 50 near Interstate 97. According to police, the victim told troopers that another driver brandished a crowbar and later a firearm during the altercation. No injuries were reported.

Troopers assigned to the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crime Initiative assumed the case and later identified Crews as the suspect. On December 31, state police arrested her near her residence. A subsequent search of her vehicle uncovered a loaded firearm inside a backpack on the front passenger seat, authorities said.
