Clearwater man arrested for attempted murder following road rage shooting

On July 16, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) headquartered in Largo, Florida, announced that detectives assigned to their Robbery & Homicide Unit arrested a Clearwater man for Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
Background: On June 5, 2025, at approximately 8:11 p.m., 24-year-old Derrius Laskett of St. Petersburg was driven to the hospital where he was found to be suffering from two gunshot wounds. Laskett directed the Clearwater Police Department to the incident location near the intersection of Auburn Street Northwest and Carnegie Avenue. Due to the location being in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) jurisdiction, PCSO detectives assumed the investigation.
According to detectives, Laskett and 24-year-old Jamarl Spence were involved in a road rage incident. Immediately following the incident, Laskett, who was a passenger, exited the vehicle while they exchanged words. According to detectives, Spence then produced a handgun and fired several shots at Laskett, hitting him twice.
Laskett was treated for his injuries and has since been released.
Spence was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
