On July 7, law enforcement officials in Jacksonville announced the arrest of a 52-year-old Florida man, Jason Blount, who was taken into custody in Orange County on burglary charges.  Blount, a resident of Orlando, had his DNA recorded during his booking.  When his DNA was entered into the system, it matched three Jacksonville rape cases that dated back 25 years.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO,) the rapes occurred in 2000 and 2002, rapes that deputies in Jacksonville say they had never forgotten about.

Blount’s M.O.?   Ambushing women outside their homes. One was jogging when he attacked her. Another was leaving her apartment when he dragged her to another location. In a third case, he forced his way into the victim’s apartment.

Now, 25 years after the first crime, this dangerous predator is being brought to justice.

JSO Special Assault Unit Cold Case Detective Cribbs was already working on the cases. She developed enough probable cause to charge Blount with three counts of sexual battery. Detectives have identified an additional victim, who was elderly at the time and is now deceased.
