Florida fugitive child sex offender, on the run for over a year, captured in New Orleans

(July 24, 2025) Yesterday, Florida’s Hernando County Sheriff’s Office working in cooperation with the United States Marshals Service (USMS) announced that a fugitive identified as 44-year-old Christian Fischer, who had been actively evading law enforcement since February 2024, has been captured and arrested.
Background: In January 2022, Fischer was arrested by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on charges including Traveling to Meet a Minor, and, Use of a Computer to Solicit a Child for Sexual Activity. At the time of his arrest, Fischer was found to be in possession of condoms, lubricant, narcotics, and other sexual paraphernalia.
Fischer was released on bond pending trial. On February 2, 2024, Fischer appeared in court for the first day of his trial. However, on the second day of the trial, Fischer failed to appear. As a result, a Failure to Appear warrant was issued with nationwide extradition. Despite his absence, Fischer was found guilty in absentia, with sentencing delayed pending his apprehension.
Subsequent investigation revealed Fischer fled Florida on February 6, 2024, flying from Tampa to San Diego, California, before making his way to southern Oregon. In October 2024, USMS located Fischer’s recreational vehicle (RV) at a campground near Cataldo, Idaho, where he had reportedly been residing for approximately one month. Law enforcement narrowly missed capturing him at that location.
His RV was later discovered near Athol, Idaho. A tactical operation was conducted, including the deployment of gas and a SWAT team entry. However, Fischer was not inside. It was later determined Fischer had been observing law enforcement from a wooded area nearby and subsequently fled to Washington State, and then to Portland, Oregon.
Despite multiple manhunts in various states, including Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California, Fischer continued to evade capture.
On or about July 10, 2025, USMS obtained photographs of Fischer in New Orleans, Louisiana, from April 2025. Continued investigative efforts, including the review of social media posts and surveillance footage, led investigators to narrow his location to the downtown New Orleans area.
With the assistance of Project NOLA, a privately operated surveillance network, USMS investigators located Fischer walking his dog on a New Orleans street. Fischer initially provided a false identity to law enforcement but was positively identified and taken into custody without incident.
Fischer is currently awaiting extradition to Hernando County, where he faces formal sentencing.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis said, “The success of this investigation highlights the dedication of our local deputies and our law enforcement partners nationwide. I commend the tireless efforts of the United States Marshals Service and all the agencies involved in safely apprehending this dangerous individual and returning him to face justice here in Hernando County.”
