Florida man charged with seven felonies after gun waving road rage assault
A tense road rage altercation in Walton County on February 8 led to the arrest of 33-year-old Blackie Alvarez of Bonifay, Florida. Alvarez, who now faces seven felony charges, was involved in a frightening incident when police said he pointed a gun at another driver while traveling on Highway 331 South near Sherwood Road.
At around 1:00 p.m., Florida’s Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call describing a man brandishing a gun during a dangerous road confrontation. The suspect’s vehicle, a white Ford Explorer, was quickly located by the DeFuniak Springs Police. When Alvarez exited the vehicle, officers observed him pull a black handgun from his waistband and place it on top of his car.
A search revealed two sets of metal knuckles in his pockets.
According to the victims, the encounter began when Alvarez began aggressively tailgating, honking his horn, and speeding around them. The situation escalated when he came to a sudden stop in front of their vehicle, exited, and pointed the weapon at them.
Alvarez refused to speak to deputies during the investigation. He was charged with:
- two felony counts of false imprisonment,
- two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,
- one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,
- two counts of carrying a concealed weapon unlawfully, and,
- driving without a license.

The icing on the cake was that Alvarez also had an outstanding warrant from Bay County for failure to pay child support. He remains incarcerated with a $235,000 bond. The case is under further investigation.
