Former Baltimore County Youth Pastor arrested on child sex abuse charges
(August 7, 2025) Just hours ago, Detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit reported on the arrest of 52-year-old Thomas Pinkerton who has been charged with multiple sex offenses stemming from abuse that occurred between 2006 and 2010. During that timeframe, Pinkerton worked at Central Christian Church located in the 7400 block of Rossville Boulevard in Perry Hall.
Detectives suspect that the abuse occurred at the church and at Pinkerton’s Baltimore County home. Pinkerton, who now resides in Georgia, was extradited to Maryland on Wednesday, August 6. The former youth pastor is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on no bond.
Detectives do believe there may be more victims of Pinkerton’s abuse who have yet to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crimes Against Children Unit at 410-887-7720.

Also today, the Central Christian Church released the following statement:
Official Church Statement
Concerning Former Staff Member Thomas Pinkerton
Allegations of sexual abuse involving a former staff member have resulted in the indictment and arrest of Thomas Pinkerton. Pinkerton served on staff more than 15 years ago and has not been affiliated with Central since leaving to start his own ministry.
The matter became known after one of the alleged victims had the courage to step forward and report the abuse to law enforcement. Since then, additional individuals, some of whom were minors during the staff member’s tenure, have come forward with similar accounts. Allegations have also surfaced from individuals in other states after the staff member’s departure.
“This news is deeply heartbreaking,” said Larry Kirk, Lead Pastor of Central Christian. “We are committed to walking alongside these young men with compassion and support.”
The church has offered counseling and spiritual support to those impacted and has fully cooperated with law enforcement while this case remains under investigation.
While the legal process is still underway, church leadership emphasized its unwavering stance against abuse of any kind. “There is absolutely no place for abuse – ever – in the church,” said Pastor Kirk.
No further details will be released at this time to protect the privacy of those involved.
