Killer final season: ‘You’ hits 10.1 million views in one week
“You” first arrived on Netflix in 2018 and quickly took the world by storm, turning into a massive global hit and capturing the cultural zeitgeist. Season 5 debuted on April 24 and in the first four days on Netflix, the season already had 10.1M views and claimed the top spot on the English TV list. Its return also inspired fans to dive back into Season 1, which re-entered the Top 10 for the first time since February 2023.
Meanwhile, the show’s lead actor and co-producer, Penn Badgley, added 169,481 Instagram followers, and searches for “you season 6” hit 184,467 in one week. This is according to a new report from CritiqueJeu, which evaluated statistics from Netflix’s Tudum platform, Google Trends, Instagram and Social Blade, measured as of May 1.
“You” Synopsis: For anyone that may have never heard of the hit series: “You” is a Netflix original series and psychological thriller following Joe Goldberg, a seemingly charming but dangerously obsessive man, who uses technology and manipulation to insert himself into the lives of women he becomes infatuated with, often resorting to extreme measures, including murder, to achieve his desires. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes.

“You” Season 5 Streamed 10.1 Million Times: Season 5 of Netflix’s psychological thriller You currently ranks first globally in the English TV category. Since it aired on April 24, the season was streamed for a total of 85.2 million minutes. The final season runs for 8 hours and 27 minutes, which averages 10,082,840 people watching it entirely in the first week since its premiere. It now ranks #1 in 37 countries and features in the top 10 in 88 countries.
“You” Season 1 Re-Enters Global Chart At #10: The first season from the same series took over Top 10s in ten countries: Slovakia (#7), Serbia (#7), Czech Republic (#8), Hungary (#9), Kenya (#9), Latvia (#9), Lithuania (#9), Germany (#10), Nigeria (#10), and Ukraine (#10).
“You” Season 1 added an extra 13.6 million minutes in the past week across 1,809,305 Netflix accounts. As a result, “You” features twice in this week’s global top ten, with the first and last seasons.

In the US, Canada and Australia, “You” ranks at #2 after Ransom Canyon which had a one-week head start. In the UK, itis currently the second-most watched English TV series, after Black Work – another new series that premiered at the same time as You.
Penn Badgley Adds 170,000 Followers: Meanwhile, Penn Badgley, who plays the lead role of Joe Goldberg and acted as one of the show’s executive producers in 30 episodes, added 169,481 followers on his Instagram account within a week since his character’s final season appearance. He currently boasts 5,470,794 followers.

“Considering Penn Badgley set up his Instagram account about a year before the first season of You aired – and five years after Gossip Girl’s final season – we would venture to say that his fantastic portrayal of Joe Goldberg was the main driver for his social media presence,” says Paul Lenglet, co-founder and editor of CritiqueJeu.
People Search for “You Season 6” 184,467 Times: Since the final season of “You” premiered, searches for “You Season 6” hit 184,467 in just a week. On Monday alone, after the first weekend binge, there were 33,000 searches for any news on the following season. This is despite Netflix explicitly describing it as being the series’ final season and producers, including Penn Badgley, confirming Joe Goldberg’s road ends this season.

Lenglet clarifies: “Clearly, fans are not ready to say goodbye to Joe, who, ironically, has managed to make himself probably one of the most loveable fictional murders. The producers address these conflicting feelings in the final episode, which we will not spoil for you here by elaborating.”
