(November 17, 2025) Gunfire rang out in Midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning and left Kris Boyd, 29, a cornerback with the New York Jets, in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen, according to ABC News and Yahoo! Sports.  Police in NYC announced that the shooting went down at approximately 2:09 a.m. in front of the Asian-fusion restaurant “Sei Less,” located at 156 West 38th Street, Midtown Manhattan.

Following the shooting, Boyd was was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe the trigger that led to the shooting was a verbal dispute outside the restaurant that escalated. Two shots were fired, and the alleged shooter fled the scene in a blue BMW X8 SUV. Police say that a silver Mercedes-Maybach was also reported departing the area moments later. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD continues to investigate and has already released images of the suspected shooter.

In response to the shooting, teammates and city officials have spoken out.

Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson posted on social media asking for prayers:  “Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! … Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety.”

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, said on X: “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”

For now, officials are still looking for the male shooting suspect, last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants and multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.  Surveillance footage and vehicle tracking (BMW X8, Mercedes-Maybach) will be central to the investigation.

Boyd joined the Jets in March 2025 on a one-year deal but has not played this season, having been placed on injured reserve in August following a shoulder injury sustained in training camp.  A former seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings (2019), Boyd also had stints at the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before arriving in New York.

The latest updates to Boyd’s condition, as of 8:26 a.m. today (Monday,) are that he remains hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital Center. His status is still listed as critical but stable.  A close friend of Boyd’s characterized his condition more optimistically, saying Boyd is “doing real good” and recovering well.”  The New York Jets have acknowledged the incident and said they “have no further comment at this time.”
