Missing woman whose car crashed into canal, found days later, naked, alive, waving down traffic

(October 2, 2025) A local story that has consumed South Florida headlines for the the last few days – ever since a missing woman’s vehicle was found plunged head-first into a Ft. Pierce canal but with no sign of the missing woman – came to an interesting conclusion this morning.
Background: On September 30 at approximately 12:00 p.m., deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area near Indrio Road and Johnston Road in Ft. Pierce regarding a white 2018 Acura MDX discovered partially submerged in a canal.
The registered owner of the vehicle was identified as Jennifer Fisher, 53, of Jacksonville. Fisher had been reported missing after not showing up for a stay at an Airbnb. Family members stated that she had some mental health issues.
The mystery consuming police and the public now was – “how did that car end up in the canal, who was driving it, and where was the driver, Jennifer Fisher?”

Following the discovery of the vehicle, a search of the area, including the waters of the canal, was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit, Drone Team, Dive Team, and K-9 Unit, and extended into the nighttime hours. Despite all efforts, Fisher was not located in the immediate area.
Detectives learned that Fisher had planned to stay at an Airbnb for two nights, but the location of the Airbnb is unknown. It was also determined that she left Jacksonville with a teal-colored electric bicycle (E-Bike) secured in the back of her vehicle.
During the preliminary investigation, detectives noted that her E-Bike was not present in or around the vehicle at the crash scene, suggesting that she may have left the scene and could be traveling by E-Bike.

Today: This morning at approximately 5:35 a.m., the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting a naked female lying in a ditch in the 4400 block of Johnston Road. Callers indicated the female appeared to be the subject of the missing person alert that had been shared by the Sheriff’s Office and widely circulated on social media.
Deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau, along with St. Lucie County Fire Rescue, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the female was indeed identified as the missing woman – Jennifer Fisher – who was the registered owner of the white Acura MDX that crashed into the canal earlier this week.
Deputies said that Fisher was not exactly forthcoming with a lot of information; but she did confirm she had crashed her vehicle, removed her clothing, and walked into the woods with the intent of staying there for several days. When questioned about her reported E-Bike, Fisher advised that she did not have it with her.
Jennifer’s only complaint to deputies was irritation from Fire-Ant bites.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue transported Fisher to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate as part of this ongoing investigation.

An interesting aside to this story came from a local man who wrote to the Sheriff’s Office on social media and said:
She wasn’t laying in a ditch she was standing on the east side of the road right before the bridge on Johnston just south of Indrio naked, waving her hand for someone to stop, at 5:30am it was dark I accidentally drove past her, it went through my mind as this might be a set up should I go back or not, god told me go back and see if you can help. so I turned around called 911 as I pulled back up to her she only asked for clothes as she was cold, she told me many cars have drove by and not 1 stopped she thanked me and god. I gave her a shirt and waited for deputies to arrive.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the writer by saying:
Thank you for listening to that voice and choosing compassion. In a world where so many just pass by, your decision to turn around, call for help, and offer kindness truly matters. You were exactly who she needed in that moment. Grateful for people in our community like you. May you have an amazing day. 💙
