In a stunning development off the field, New England Patriots veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing felony strangulation (or suffocation) and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an alleged altercation at his Massachusetts home.  According to police reports and court filings, the alleged victim — who worked as Diggs’ private chef — claims that a pay dispute on December 2, 2025, escalated into violence.

According to People, the woman told police that she was in her bedroom when Diggs walked in after the two had “been having an ongoing text exchange over money owed to [her].”  Diggs and the woman began to discuss the matter, which “apparently angered” the NFL star.

The woman told authorities that after discussing unpaid wages at Diggs’ Dedham, Massachusetts, residence, the 32-year-old wide receiver allegedly smacked her across the face and placed his elbow around her neck, causing difficulty in her breathing – before throwing her onto a bed.

Reportedly, she initially hesitated to involve law enforcement due to Diggs’ celebrity status but later reported the incident to the Dedham Police Department on December 16 and chose to pursue charges. The Patriots organization and the NFL have acknowledged the matter, saying they are cooperating with authorities,

The 32-year-old Diggs is one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers, currently playing for the Patriots after signing a multi-year contract in the 2025 offseason. A former Pro Bowl standout with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, Diggs has been among the league’s most productive pass-catchers over the past decade. He has also drawn significant media attention for his high-profile relationship with rapper Cardi B and their family life.

Diggs has not made a personal public statement, but through his attorney, he has categorically denied the allegations, calling them unsubstantiated and the result of a financial dispute rather than an act of violence. His defense team reportedly argued that the case stemmed from an unresolved pay disagreement.

Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, 2026 — a date that falls just days before a potential AFC Championship Game, should the Patriots advance.  For more on the story, see the video accompanying this article.
