Maryland State Police investigators arrested the owners of the now-shuttered Heaven Bound Crematorium on February 20, 2026, following a year-long criminal investigation into the improper handling and storage of human remains under their charge in Charles County. Rosa Iyonna Williams, 48, and Brandon Angelo Williams, 50, both of Waldorf, were taken into custody by the Maryland State Apprehension Team and transported for an initial appearance before a district court commissioner on Friday. Each face eight criminal counts of unauthorized disposal of a body under Maryland General Health Article §5-514.

According to authorities, the charges stem from the mishandling of the remains of seven fetuses and one two-month-old infant.

The investigation began in February 2025 after the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office requested a criminal probe into Heaven Bound Crematorium, located at 4445 Crain Highway in White Plains, following regulatory inspection violations. Search warrants executed at the crematory and the couple’s Bensville residence uncovered cremated remains and multiple decomposing bodies stored inside the home, some reportedly belonging to infants.

Investigators also documented what officials described as deplorable conditions at the crematorium before it was shut down in January 2025. Inspectors reported a non-functioning cremation chamber, bodies stacked in cardboard boxes, and an overfilled cooler that could not fully close.  ~ Baynet

Authorities say an intensive effort followed to identify the remains and notify affected families. In addition to the criminal charges, the Williams are facing more than two dozen civil lawsuits filed by families who allege they were given incorrect remains or later learned their loved ones were never cremated.

Police say that the investigation into this horrific case remains active and ongoing. For more on this macabre story, see the video accompanying this article.
