Police in Vero Beach arrest woman for cyberstalking and filing false reports against an officer
On Friday, September 19, police in Vero Beach, Florida, arrested 29-year-old Mariah Jane Keller on charges of Cyberstalking, False Report to Law Enforcement, and Resisting Arrest Without Violence.
An investigation revealed that Keller repeatedly made false accusations against a Vero Beach Police Officer, alleging that he was stalking her. She posted these claims—along with photographs of the officer and his family—across multiple Facebook groups in an attempt to damage his reputation and character. Keller also visited the Vero Beach Police Department numerous times, attempting to file complaints against the officer.
Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and determined that all of Keller’s accusations were unfounded and untrue. Keller had previously been advised to stop posting false and harmful information. Despite these warnings, she continued her online activity, which ultimately led to her arrest.
During the arrest, Keller resisted officers; however, she was quickly taken into custody without any injuries or additional issues. She was transported to the Indian River County Jail, where she is being held on a $10,500 bond.
“This case serves as a reminder that false accusations and online harassment are taken very seriously by law enforcement,” said the Vero Beach Police Department. “We will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who misuse online platforms to target individuals or law enforcement officers.”
