Shooter connected to rape of 15-year-old girl, thanks to an alert hospital employee

Yesterday, law enforcement officials in Tulsa, Oklahoma, announced that with an assist from an alert hospital worker, they connected a shooting suspect to an earlier rape of a 15-year-old girl. The case dates back to May 13, when a Tulsa Police Department Officer responded to a call regarding the sexual assault involving a 15-year-old girl.
The victim told the Officer that a man kidnapped her at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted and raped her in his SUV. During the rape, the victim said she found a knife in the suspect’s SUV, stabbed him several times, bit him, and managed to escape. The brave victim described her assailant as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years old, with a messy bun.
On May 15th, a shooting occurred near 4300 N. Hartford, where two men fired shots at one another in the street. After the shooting, Ebher Ruiz was taken into custody and arrested.
On May 16th, deputies with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) took Ruiz to the hospital for treatment. A hospital employee, who also assisted in the rape case, noticed Ruiz matched the description of the rape suspect involving the 15-year-old girl. Ruiz also had multiple stab wounds that were several days old and bite marks.
Through the investigation, Detectives tied Ruiz to the SUV used in the rape, and the SUV was also caught on surveillance video in the area around the same time. Officers recovered the SUV and found a knife with blood on it inside.
The 15-year-old victim positively identified Ebher Ruiz as her attacker. Ruiz remains in the Tulsa County Jail on charges related to the shooting, and he will also be charged with:
- 1st Degree Rape
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Sodomy
- Lewd Molestation
