On May 23, Maryland’s Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Riverdale last October. The suspects are 33-year-old Jose Guardado-Orellana of Mount Rainier and 30-year-old Santiago De La O Lemus of Landover. They are charged with murdering 38-year-old Jeiver Pozuelos Cervantes of Hyattsville.

Background: On October 24, 2024, at approximately 6:40 am, a citizen flagged down patrol officers in the area of Veterans Parkway and Riverdale Road to alert them to an unresponsive man on the side of the road. The victim was located and found suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

As the investigation into the shooting evolved, homicide detectives identified both De La O Lemus and Guardado-Orellana as the suspects in this fatal shooting. On May 12, 2025, the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested Guardado-Orellana in Baltimore. On December 4, 2024, with the assistance of the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service, De La O Lemus was taken into custody in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He has since been extradited to Prince George’s County.

Police say that De La O Lemus and Guardado-Orellana shot Jeiver Pozuelos Cervantes during a robbery.

Both suspects are charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. They are in the custody of Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
