(September 2, 2025) Disturbing news coming out of Kentucky as we’re hearing from the Lexington Police Department that a young woman was arrested and charged regarding the death of her newborn infant – a birth and death that she tried to conceal.  Police released the macabre news on Sunday.

Background: On Wednesday, August 27 around 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched regarding a call for an unresponsive infant at a residence in the 400 block of Park Avenue in Lexington. When officers arrived, they located an infant that was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The infant’s mother, Laken Snelling, 21, was arrested on August 31 and charged with Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant. Police announced that the 21-year-old agreed to be interviewed and informed investigators that she had given birth and tried to conceal evidence of the birth. As of August 31, Snelling was being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

NBC News reports that Snelling is Senior at the University of Kentucky where she is also a member of the school’s competitive cheer stunt team.

Police did not say whether or not Snelling was responsible for killing the newborn.  The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will release the infant’s cause of death. There may be additional charges coming in this case.

The Lexington police arrest citation for Snelling, obtained by NBC affiliate WLEX of Lexington, states officers were dispatched to her residence Wednesday morning after receiving a report that a deceased infant was in a closet.

“Infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” the citation states.  ~ MSN
