Venezuelan immigrant tries drowning random woman in violent, unprovoked beach attack

A 26-year-old undocumented Venezuelan immigrant has been arrested after a brutal and unprovoked attack on a woman who was walking alone and talking to a relative on her cell phone on Stuart’s Tiger Shore Beach. In a horrific, random, and unprovoked attack, the attacker, identified as Said Alexander Hernandez-Gonzalez, attempted to drown the woman around 11 p.m. on February 12, 2026.
Martin County deputies say he attacked the woman, who was a stranger to him, while repeatedly holding her head underwater, believing he had killed the woman who valiantly tried fighting back against him.
During the violent struggle, the woman eventually lost consciousness. Believing the victim was dead, Hernandez-Gonzalez, grabbed her cell phone and threw it into the ocean and walked away – leaving the woman half in and half out of the water. Fortunately, the victim lived, regained consciousness hours later, and managed to walk a mile to safety before encountering deputies.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) tracked Hernandez-Gonzalez down thanks to help from the Port St. Lucie Police, and determined he was the attacker. Hernandez-Gonzalez told officers he was at the beach and saw the woman alone. He made statements indicating she made him angry, so he attacked her and drowned her. He stopped the attack when he believed she was dead.
He then went to his vehicle, smoked marijuana, drank vodka, and left the scene. When asked if he was remorseful, Hernandez Gonzalez stated he felt nothing. ~ MCSO
Hernandez-Gonzalez, who had previously overstayed his visa, has been charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Martin County Jail. Immigration authorities have placed an ICE detainer on him.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said, “This is an extremely alarming case. Random acts of violence like this are some of the most difficult crimes to solve — and that’s exactly what this was.” ~ WPEC, CBS-12
