Victoria Jones, daughter of Oscar Winner Tommy Lee Jones, found dead at 34 on New Year’s Day
(January 3, 2026) Victoria Kafka Jones, 34, the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones, was found dead early on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, inside the historic Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Francisco, according to multiple law enforcement and fire department sources.
First responders with the San Francisco Fire Department were dispatched to the luxury hotel at 950 Mason Street at approximately 2:52 a.m., responding to a medical emergency call. Paramedics assessed Jones at the scene and pronounced her deceased. The San Francisco Police Department and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner were called in to investigate.
Currently, no official cause of death has been publicly released by the medical examiner’s office. Dispatch audio and law enforcement sources obtained by media outlets indicate the incident was initially categorized as a suspected drug overdose, with indicators such as “code 3 for overdose” and “color change” referenced in emergency communication recordings. Authorities have not confirmed an overdose as the final cause of death and say the investigation is ongoing, according to People.
Police do not currently suspect foul play.
In a statement to the media, Fairmont Hotel officials said, “We are deeply saddened by an incident that occurred at the hotel on January 1, 2026. Our heartfelt condolences are with the family and loved ones during this very difficult time. The hotel team is actively cooperating and supporting police authorities within the framework of the ongoing investigation.”
As of this writing, Tommy Lee Jones and his family have not released a detailed public statement regarding Victoria’s passing. Some outlets report that the actor issued a brief message expressing gratitude for public support and asking for privacy, though representatives have otherwise remained largely silent.

Victoria Jones was born in 1991 to Tommy Lee Jones and his then-wife Kimberlea Cloughley. She was the younger of the couple’s two children and grew up partly around her father’s film work. Victoria appeared in minor roles in Hollywood productions, including a youthful appearance in “Men in Black II” (2002) opposite her father and a role in “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada” (2005), which her father directed; she also guest-starred in the TV series One Tree Hill.
In the years leading up to her death, public records indicate Jones encountered several legal and personal challenges, including multiple arrests in 2025 on charges related to substance use and other allegations in Napa and Santa Cruz counties. She pleaded not guilty in those cases and had been released on bail.
In 2025, Victoria was arrested at least three times. She was detained in Napa County once for obstructing a peace officer under the influence of a narcotic substance. She was also arrested for substance possession. A month later, she was arrested in Santa Cruz County and was later arrested in Napa County on domestic battery, domestic violence, and elder abuse charges. ~ The Week
