Adding to the anticipation of the highly anticipated July 11 release of the new Superman film, Warner Bros. Discovery, in conjunction with DC Studios announced it is launching a social impact campaign with Best Friends Animal Society, a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. The campaign is designed to bring awareness to adoptable pets around the country and remove barriers to finding their best friend and “furever” home.

“Superman” director James Gunn filmed a PSA that features man’s first superhero and man’s best friend, encouraging viewers to join WBD in adopting an out of this world pet by supporting the work of Best Friends Animal Society. The PSA is part of a multichannel marketing campaign that began airing in July on WBD platforms nationwide – from sports and streaming to cable, broadcast and social media – and in AMC theaters the month of July.

In addition to the PSA, WBD will cover adoption fees from July 1 – 10 at select Best Friends Animal Society locations in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Salt Lake City, Northwest Arkansas and the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT. That means you can be a hero like Superman™ and adopt your best friend for free. Just like Superman has Krypto the Superdog, your sidekick is out there ready to fly with you on all of life’s adventures

“There are so many wonderful pets out there just waiting for a wonderful family to make their lives complete, like Ozu makes ours,” said ‘Superman’ director James Gunn. “Head over to your shelter and make a new best pal – there’s a reason people with pets live longer!”

“Right now, adoptable dogs and cats across the country are looking for superheroes of their very own,” said Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society. “At Best Friends Animal Society we believe every story should have a heroic ending and that by teaming up with Warner Bros. Discovery on James Gunn’s new ‘Superman’ – we can help inspire people across the country to use their superpowers to save lives.

Other exciting and impactful aspects of the campaign include a Charitybuzz auction for a chance to win tickets to the Los Angeles premiere of DC Studios’ “Superman,” family day adoption events at WBD offices in select cities, and a DIY dog toy intern volunteer activity – all in support of Best Friends Animal Society.

The campaign is led by WBD’s Corporate Social Responsibility team, which is dedicated to global cause marketing campaigns engaging viewers, advertisers and business partners to move the needle on key social issues. By leveraging WBD’s iconic brands, franchises and global platforms in partnership with NGOs and charities, the team provides critical resources and needs to communities around the world. Social Impact’s core philanthropic focus areas address food insecurity, disaster relief and mental health and well-being, creating career pathways and protecting the planet.
