In a disturbing holiday-season safety scare, authorities in Biloxi, Mississippi, arrested a 33-year-old Texas woman on Tuesday in connection with multiple incidents in which customers discovered razor blades hidden inside loaves of bread purchased at local Walmart stores.

Camille Benson, who police say was identified through store surveillance footage, was taken into custody and charged with attempted mayhem — a felony offense that alleges intent to cause serious physical injury. She is being held in the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, according to KABB News.
Police and store reports state that the troubling sequence of events began early in December when a customer at the Walmart Supercenter on CT Switzer Sr. Drive first found a razor blade inside a loaf of bread purchased on December 5. A second report came three days later from the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pass Road, where another shopper made a similar discovery. Following additional complaints on December 14 — including more tampered loaves found on store shelves — Walmart employees removed and inspected all potentially affected bakery products at both locations.
“The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority,” Walmart said in a statement, adding that the company is cooperating closely with law enforcement and offering full refunds to customers who purchased suspect products. ~ AP News
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incidents; and authorities say they don’t believe any Walmart stores beyond the two Biloxi locations were targeted.
Still, the Biloxi Police Department urged anyone who bought bread from either store to inspect their items for any foreign objects and to report concerns immediately.
The Houston Chronicle reports that the motive behind the alleged tampering remains unclear; and investigators are continuing their probe into how and why the dangerous items were placed inside the bakery products.
