Young child killed in Dorchester County car crash

On the morning of Saturday, November 8, the Dorchester Couty Sheriff’s Office shared the somber news that a young child has died following a motor-vehicle crash that occurred yesterday in the East New Market area of Dorchester County, Maryland. Investigators from local and state agencies are still actively probing the collision.

According to a bulletin from the Sheriff’s Office, and as also reported by WBOC, emergency responders arrived at the scene after a report of a crash. One young child was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained from the car crash. The sheriff’s office and state troopers are handling the investigation and have not released the child’s name or any additional identifying information pending family notification.

State troopers and air-medical personnel responded to the crash. Reportedly, at least one other person was seriously hurt and transported from the scene by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 7 to an area trauma center for treatment. Officials have not released an updated condition report for the hospitalized victims.

Maryland State Police and Dorchester County investigators are working together to determine the cause of the crash. Early reports have not yet disclosed whether impaired driving, speed, roadway conditions or another factor contributed; troopers said the investigation is ongoing and evidence is being collected. Authorities have encouraged anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dash-cam or door-bell video from the time and location to contact the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office or the Maryland State Police to assist the probe.
