Baltimore, hell, the entire state of Maryland has gone electric in anticipation of Sundayโ€™s January 28 AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens to be held at M&T Bank Stadium in downtown Baltimore.ย  The game is one of the most anticipated matchups of the season as it features two of the best and most popular teams in the NFL – and the game decides which of those two gridiron giants will be featured in the 2024 Super Bowl.ย

(By the way, Baltimore and this writer love Taylor Swift!ย  The hilarious memes flooding social media featuring Chiefsโ€™ Travis Kelce‘s girlfriend photoshopped into iconic Baltimore landmark locations are just an added delight.)

If youโ€™ve been following the Chiefs and Ravens, youโ€™re aware of the differing styles of play between the two teams, styles that feature two effective quarterbacks who also have their differing strengths and weaknesses.ย

Kansas City features the more experienced QB Patrick Mahomes and his spectacular passing offense, throwing for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season and supported by Taylor Swiftโ€™s boyfriend, Travis Kelce in the tight end position who can boast 984 receiving yards this season.ย  The Chiefsโ€™ offense is also bolstered by running back Isiah Pacheco, who rushed this season for 935 yards. The Chiefs have arguably the best defense in the Mahomes era, and are in the books for the second-most sacks in the league for this season.

And whereas Baltimore has a great passing game, their offense features a double threat in QB Lamar Jackson who is not only unafraid to run the ball โ€“ but does so in dramatic fashion.ย  Jackson not only passed for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, but he also ran the ball 821 yards while carrying it in for a touchdown 12 times. Jackson isnโ€™t alone out there however and depends on wide receiver Zay Flowers, who had 858 receiving yards during the regular season, and running back J.K. Dobbins, who rushed for 805 yards. Baltimore also boasts a strong defense, and one that allowed the fewest points and the second-fewest yards per game in the league this season.

Other factors that will decide the outcome of Sundayโ€™s match include the coaching staffs, the weather, the refs, possible injuries on the field, unexpected turnovers โ€“ and each teamโ€™s ability to adjust their game play if and when needed.

The Baltimore Ravens are seeking their third Super Bowl appearance in franchise history and first since winning Super Bowl XLVII following the 2012 season.  Baltimore, with the home field advantage, and credited by sports writers to have a more balanced and consistent offense over Kansas City, and a more formidable and disciplined defense, is predicted by the odds-makers to win the championship game on Sunday by 3 points.

No matter which team youโ€™re rooting for, this Sundayโ€™s championship game should be one for the record books.  Go Ravens!
