ESSEX, Md. — A search for a missing New Jersey woman has taken a heartbreaking turn after skeletal human remains were discovered Friday in a creek near Essex, prompting Baltimore County homicide detectives to investigate whether they belong to 46-year-old Kimberly Gordon, who disappeared nearly a month ago.

According to the Baltimore County Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:25 a.m. on July 17 to a report of possible human remains in the area of the Route 702 and Interstate 695 interchange. Upon arrival, they located skeletal remains in a nearby tributary of Back River.

The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the person’s identity, along with the cause and manner of death.

Investigators are now working to determine whether the remains are those of Gordon, who was reported missing after she was last seen on June 21, 2026, at approximately 2 p.m.

The grim discovery came just one day after The AWARE Foundation, Inc. shared an urgent public appeal seeking help in locating Gordon. According to that appeal, Gordon was last seen behind Sky Zone East Baltimore, located at 8645 Pulaski Highway in Rosedale. Detectives believed she may have been involved in a vehicle crash earlier that day and could have suffered a head injury, making the search especially urgent.

Authorities also said Gordon’s 2024 white Hyundai Elantra—which reportedly displayed a wide-load sign along with stickers bearing her name and phone number on the side windows—has since been recovered. Surveillance footage captured Gordon behind the Sky Zone business, but investigators said she was not seen again after that.

At this stage, police have not confirmed that the remains are Gordon’s, and investigators have not released any information regarding possible foul play. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the discovery of the remains remain under active investigation.

Baltimore County Police are asking anyone with information that could assist detectives to contact the department’s Homicide Unit at 410-887-4636.
