Female prisoner found unresponsive in her Charlotte County Jail cell
On June 1, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) shared the tragic news that a female inmate was pronounced dead at the hospital after she was found unresponsive in her Charlotte County Jail cell. When officials discovered her body, they said that she was found with a piece of fabric around her neck. The jail is located in Punta Gorda, Florida.
The inmate who took her own life was identified as 30-year-old Jordan Michelle Richards. She had been arrested on May 15, 2025, on felony charges of Criminal Use of Personal Identification Without Consent and Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards (Two or More Times $100 or more).
Jordan was discovered unresponsive in her cell around 7:30 p.m. on May 31. The staff member who found her immediately called for additional help and CCSO Corrections staff began life-saving measures to include CPR and the deployment of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). EMS arrived and took over the rescue attempts until Richards was transported to a local hospital at 8:02 p.m.
Unfortunately, she did not survive and was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 8:17 p.m. Her next of kin has been notified. The Sheriff’s Office reports that this is still an active investigation, and no further details are available at this time.

“It is always sad to see someone choose to take their own life, and my heart goes out to those who knew and loved her. Even if someone is incarcerated, their life matters. As my team investigates how this happened, I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young lady.” – Sheriff Bill Prummell
