(June 16, 2025) A massive manhunt in Minnesota concluded last night, when fugitive Vance Boelter, 57, was taken into custody without incident near a farm he owns in Green Isle, Minnesota. The manhunt for Boelter began immediately after the โpolitically motivated assassinationsโ of a Minnesota state representative and her husband were shot and killed and a Minnesota state senator and his wife were shot and seriously wounded. Boelter was named as the suspect of those shootings on the afternoon of June 14.
ABC News shared Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Col. Jeremy Geigeras as saying that when police closed in on Boelter in the woods near his farm, he surrendered, and that “the suspect crawled to law enforcement teams and was placed under arrest at that point in time.” ย Boelter was named as the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shootings of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the separate shootings of Sen. John Hoffman and his spouse.
Police said they found in a search of the suspect’s vehicle after the shooting an alleged target list of dozens of Minnesota Democrats, including Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith and state Attorney General Keith Ellison, according to law enforcement sources.
Background: The Minnesota state representative and her husband were shot and killed and the Minnesota state senator and his wife were shot and seriously wounded in an “act of targeted political violence” at their homes in the early mornings hours on Saturday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said at a press conference. The overnight shootings took place in their homes in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, two cities just north of Minneapolis.
At the time, police said the shootings were โtargetedโ and the suspect, who had not yet been identified as Boelter, should be considered to be โarmed and dangerous.โ State Rep. Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, and her husband were shot and killed in a what appears to be a “politically-motivated assassination,” Walz said. State Sen. John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife were both shot multiple times and underwent surgery, the governor said.
Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was eventually identified and named as the suspect in those shootings.
