Hagerstown man arrested after firing multiple rounds at man during altercation
On Sunday, July 27 around 2:30 a.m., officers with the Hagerstown Police Department responded to the 200 block of W. Franklin for a report of shots fired. Within minutes, officers were able to identify the suspected shooter from city surveillance cameras, locate him and place him under arrest.
The suspect, 38-year-old Charles Anthony Rodgers of Hagerstown was located in the 200 block of W. Franklin Street outside his residence. A search and seizure warrant was executed on Rodgers’ apartment. Detectives and officers recovered a .45 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun with ammunition. The handgun’s serial number was obliterated.
Further investigation revealed that there had been a verbal confrontation between the suspect and another male prior to the shooting. Rodgers aimed the gun at the victim and fired multiple rounds. Thankfully the victim was not struck.
Rodgers is currently detained at the Washington County Detention Center and is charged with the following:
- Attempted 2nd degree murder
- 1st / 2nd degree assault
- Reckless Endangerment
- Handgun on Person
- Firearm use in a Felony Violent Crime
- Knowingly Alter a Firearm ID Number
