Tragic news coming out of Tulsa as we learned that a father shot his girlfriend and their son, killing the son and severely wounding his girlfriend.  On Sunday night, August 24, around 7:30 p.m., officers with the Tulsa Police Department were called to the Seminole Hills Apartments near 1600 E. Virgin for a shooting. Family members calling 911 said that the suspect, Jaylen Green, shot his son and girlfriend, and they all took off in a car headed to the hospital.

While some Officers responded to the shooting scene, other Officers were on the lookout for the car speeding toward the hospital.  As it turned out, the car they were driving broke down at 1700 N. Lewis, and first responders converged on that location.

The four-year-old child was non-responsive at the scene and Emergency Medical personnel began working on the boy. He and his mother were rushed to the hospital. Officers drove ahead of the ambulance to clear a path in traffic.

Green was taken into custody at the scene. “We were trying to give every opportunity for this kid to have a positive outcome,” Tulsa Police Captain Meulenberg said, according to News-9.

Sadly, the four-year-old succumbed to his shooting injuries and died at the hospital.  The mother underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

At this time, it is unclear what series of events led to the shooting which caused the death of the child and injury to his mother.  Homicide Detectives are still working this case.

The charges may be amended. As of this writing, Jaylen Green has been booked for:

  • 2nd Degree Murder
  • Possession of a Firearm, After Former Conviction of a Felony
  • Resisting arrest
