(August 29, 2025)  Yesterday, the FBI field Office in Denver announced a reward of $10,00 leading to the arrest and conviction of Mathew LaDaniel Johnson, who is wanted in a double homicide that went down in Denver back in 2023.

Background:  About 1:30 a.m. on December 30, 2023, Denver Police officers responded to a shooting at The Viking, a bar in the 4800 block of West Colfax Avenue that is now permanently closed.  Police found four people with gunshot wounds. Brandon Houston, 41, and Jason Lewis, 38, died from their injuries. Two other victims were wounded but survived.

Witnesses told police there had been a disturbance before the shots were fired. The investigation led detectives to Matthew L. Johnson, 55. Denver Police obtained a warrant for his arrest on homicide charges.

Johnson went on the run and is still at large. Earlier this month, a federal judge granted FBI Denver a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

“Despite extensive efforts, investigators have not yet located and arrested Matthew Johnson for this deadly and life-altering crime,” said Denver Chief of Police Ron Thomas. “The community is a tremendous resource in helping to solve cases and locate suspects, and it is our hope that this significant reward will lead to tips and his arrest.”

Johnson has ties to Sacramento, California; Chicago, Louisiana, and Colorado.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. Note that Mathew LaDaniel Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous.
