(August 30,2025) Yesterday, a heartbreaking report regarding the murders of one little girl and her mother, plus the suicide of another adult, were reported by detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department Homicide unit, who announced that they were investigating the circumstances regarding a murder-suicide that occurred on Thursday, August 28.

Background: At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the 740 block of Wilton Farm Drive in Catonsville for reports of a “check on subject” call. Once on the scene of that welfare check, officers located an adult female suffering from apparent trauma along with a child who sustained an apparent gunshot wound; both were pronounced deceased at the scene.

An adult male, believed to be the suspect in this case, was located with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

At this time, detectives are investigating this incident as a double murder suicide. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer will complete a thorough examination into the manner and cause of death.

WBAL spoke to the female victim’s mother who identified her daughter, Chantel, and her six-year-old granddaughter, who was a first-grade student – as the two murder victims in this case.

“Chantel Sharieff was my daughter. Kimana Sharieff was my granddaughter,” said Shirley Naylor, who said she asked for the welfare check. “She just went into the first grade this year. I just had her over my house last week. Chantel came over to my house… to pick Kimana up, and the last thought I have of them is them leaving my house, telling me they loved me, giving me a hug and walking down the steps holding hands, just smiling. I believe they are in heaven together.”

Police have not yet identified the murderer, but say that it’s the man with the self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound found at the scene who is their suspect.  Reports do confirm that an adult male lived in the home with the two deceased victims.  Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public and that they are not looking for any additional suspects.

Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to call 410-307-2020 or 911.
