Florida: Naples mom charged with drowning death of baby going to jail for 10 years

In 2023, Ace News Today brought you the horrific story of a Naples, Florida, mother (now 31-years-old) who left her infant child unattended in a bathtub.ย Tragically, that eight-month-old baby girl who was left unattended died from drowning โ and the mom attempted an unsuccessful coverup of the situation.ย On September 15, 2025, we learned that the mother was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
Nicole Marie Laber pleaded no contest to aggravated manslaughter of a child in Collier County Circuit Court yesterday, following a Collier County Sheriffโs Office (CCSO) investigation into the June 17, 2023, death at her Everglades Boulevard home. Laber will also serve 10 years of probation upon completion of her prison sentence.
โOur detectives worked tirelessly to uncover the truth and bring justice for this innocent child,โ Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.
Laber initially told detectives she briefly left the infant inside the house unattended while she went to retrieve her dog and another young child in her care after they went out the front door. When she returned she found the infant slumped over on the floor, face-down, in the dogโs water bowl.
The CCSO investigation revealed Laber left the infant unattended in a bathtub while strapped to a booster seat. The infant drowned after the booster seat tipped over and trapped the child under a few inches of water. Afterward, Laber cleaned up the scene, dressed the dead child in a diaper, and lied to detectives by saying the child drowned in the dogโs water bowl.
