Rape fugitive on the run from North Carolina arrested in Orange City, FL

On the evening of October 17, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office headquartered in DeLand, Florida, announced the arrest of 25-year-old fugitive Zachary Edmister, wanted for a first-degree felony forcible sex offense in North Carolina. Officials say that on Friday night, Edmister was tracked down to the back yard of a home on Redwood Avenue in Orange City.

He initially gave a false name (his brother’s) to avoid being arrested.

In addition to his North Carolina rape charges, Edmister is now also charged with providing a false name to law enforcement and a local warrant for failure to appear on a charge of lewd or lascivious molestation.
