Suspect arrested after shocking grocery store sucker punch leaves man permanently injured (Video)
(October 25, 2025) A man accused of brutally punching a shopper at a Lauderdale Lakes grocery store — an attack that left the victim with permanent injuries — has been identified and arrested, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 45-year-old Dandrea Johnson of Pompano Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, days after releasing video surveillance footage and seeking the public’s help to identify him. Investigators said tips to Broward Crime Stoppers, spurred by widespread media coverage, led to Johnson’s capture.
The violent encounter happened around 7:20 p.m. on October 11 at the Aldi grocery store at 3301 North State Road 7. Detectives say Johnson argued with the victim inside the store, then waited outside. As the victim exited with his dog, Johnson allegedly sucker punched him without warning, knocking him to the ground. The victim struck his head, suffering severe, life-altering injuries.
Johnson faces a charge of felony battery causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or disfigurement and was booked into the Broward County Main Jail.

The victim’s family, who wish to remain anonymous, had previously released a public plea for help identifying the attacker. Their appeal above — along with clear surveillance video — helped bring the case to a swift resolution.
