Road rage mayhem: U-Haul driver turns Ft. Pierce into a demolition zone

(Avenue H and North U.S. Highway 1, Ft. Pierce)
(October 29, 2025) Yesterday, South Florida’s St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) shared the scary story of a reckless driver who tore through a busy parking lot and county roads, ramming vehicles and causing chaos. On Monday, October 27, at approximately 5:15 p.m., 911 Dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a reckless U-Haul truck forcing vehicles off the roadway in the Lakewood Park area of northern St. Lucie County.
Deputy Nelson from the SLCSO Patrol Operations Bureau first spotted the U-Haul truck driving erratically and at a very high rate of speed through the Winn-Dixie parking lot in Lakewood Park, endangering pedestrians, and other motorists.
Additional responding deputies also located the vehicle as it exited the parking lot, traveled onto Turnpike Feeder Road, and confirmed the driver’s extremely dangerous behavior. According to the Sheriff’s Office, “the driver posed a significant hazard to motorists, forcing several vehicles off the road and creating a serious public safety threat.”
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver ignored all emergency lights and sirens, continuing to flee recklessly through traffic. The pursuit came to an end at the intersection of Avenue H and North U.S. Highway 1 when the U-Haul crashed after colliding with multiple vehicles, striking traffic signs, and rupturing a water main.
Two of the collisions were determined to be intentional. One female driver was transported to a local hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Following the crash, deputies moved in and took the driver into custody. The reckless driver, identified as Brian Lassonde, 34, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

.
Lassonde was transported and booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, where he remains held without bond pending First Appearance.
Lassonde faces multiple felony charges, including:
• Three counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
• Fleeing and Eluding Causing Injury or Death
• Hit and Run – Failure to Remain at a Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury
The investigation remains active as deputies work to determine whether Lassonde was under the influence of controlled substances at the time of the incident.
Check out the crash and ultimate arrest of Brian Lassonde by the SLCSO deputies.
