(November 2, 2025) In a heartbreaking loss for Maryland fans yesterday during a gray Homecoming afternoon at sold out SECU Stadium, the Maryland Terrapins (4-4, 1-4 Big Ten) endured the kind of defeat that threatens to define their entire season. The No. 2 ranked Indiana Hoosiers (9-0, 6-0) steamrolled into College Park and left with a 55-10 victory, confirming what many feared: Maryland’s program is inching toward crisis.

Maryland actually got off to a promising start. On Indiana’s opening drive, Terrapin cornerback Jamare Glasker intercepted Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and set up a Maryland field goal, according to CBS 2 Sports. But rather than using that momentum, Maryland’s offense stalled. Indiana responded with a 7-yard Mendoza run, then extended the lead with a 22-yard scoring pass to Omar Cooper Jr. to lead 17-3 by midway through the second quarter. University of Maryland Athletics shared that by halftime the score was 20-3 and the Terrapins’ gameplan was unraveling.

Indiana continued with a show of brute force, rushing for 367 yards while holding Maryland to only 37 rushing yards. Hoosiers’ running backs – Kaelon Black (110 yards), Roman Hemby (88 yards) and Khobie Martin (80 yards) – combined to pile up yardage and touchdowns.

The Testudo Times shared that Maryland’s offensive line and run game simply couldn’t muster a response: freshman quarterback Malik Washington threw 16 of 31 for 242 yards but also committed two interceptions and a fumble.

If Maryland’s yardage woes weren’t enough, turnovers sealed their fate. Indiana forced five Maryland turnovers, including a fumble on a third-and-one that Hoosier safety Devan Boykin scooped and returned 32 yards for a touchdown to make it 34-10 early in the third. That sequence drained any lingering hope of a comeback. In contrast, Indiana’s execution was sharp: after a rocky start, they scored on eight straight drives.

The implications are chilling for the Terrapins. This was their worst defeat of the season and marks a fourth straight loss—a slide the program has now endured in three consecutive seasons. With bowl eligibility still hanging in the balance, the pressure is building on head coach Michael Locksley and his staff. Fans inside the stadium reportedly chanted “Fire Locksley” during the late stages of the rout.

Coach Locksley acknowledged the poor showing. “When we had opportunities early in the game, we did not take advantage of them,” he said. “Our defense continues to get off to a fast start, and somehow, some way we have to get the offense going.”  ~ CBS Sports

For Indiana, this was business as usual. Head coach Curt Cignetti’s program showed exactly why it’s now considered a national contender. After smooth adjustments despite injuries, the Hoosiers executed with precision. “The bottom line is this – they were No. 1 in the country in turnover ratio, and our defense created five turnovers,” Cignetti said. ~ Indiana University Athletics

With this victory, Indiana remains undefeated and firmly in the driver’s seat for the Big Ten’s top spot.

Maryland heads to Rutgers next week needing a bounce-back to salvage something from what once seemed a promising season. Indiana takes on Penn State, looking to keep the juggernaut rolling.
