David Long who was injured while assisting with an eviction notice in Vero Beach on Friday has died. A family member of Davidโ€™s confirmed to WPBF 25 News Sunday evening that Long died Sunday around 2:41 p.m.

The family member said Long had complications Saturday night and was placed on life support. The family member said Long was removed from life support Sunday because there was no hope for recovery.

The Sheriffโ€™s Office went on to say that David Long was critically injured while performing his professional duties alongside Sergeant Terri Mashkow and Deputy Arizpe on November 21, 2025. His passing comes after Sergeant Mashkow also tragically lost her life in the same incident, and as Deputy Arizpe continues his recovery.

David was known for his dedicated service and kind demeanor. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sheriff Eric Flowers expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, โ€œOur hearts are broken once again by this tragic news. David Long was a resident of our community, a dedicated professional who was simply doing his job when he was caught in an unthinkable act of violence.

The loss of David Long, following Sergeant Mashkow’s, is a reminder of the sacrifices made, not just by our sworn deputies, but by the everyday heroes who assist us. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.โ€
