Baltimore Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson ‘ruled out’ with back injury

(December 23, 2025) Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been officially ruled out following a back injury suffered during Baltimore’s 28–24 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday night, December 21. The injury comes at a critical point in the Ravens’ season and casts uncertainty over their slim playoff chances with just two games remaining in the season, according to Reuters.
Jackson left the game late in the second quarter after taking a knee to the back from Patriots safety Craig Woodson during a designed run. He valiantly tried to stay in the game but ultimately could not and was officially ruled out in the third quarter. Backup QB Tyler Huntley took over, engineering two touchdown drives in the second half. Unfortunately, Baltimore’s defense was unable to preserve a late lead.
Yesterday, head coach John Harbaugh described Jackson’s condition as a “significant contusion” to the back. Thankfully, Harbaugh was able to also note that an MRI did not reveal more serious damage. The coach emphasized that while there’s no obvious long-term injury on imaging, the contusion is painful and could keep Jackson sidelined on a day-to-day basis as the Ravens prepare for a crucial matchup against the Green Bay Packers, as reported by NFL.com.
Jackson, notably frustrated and visibly in discomfort after the game, offered candid remarks about the play that ended his night and his desire to stay with his team. “It’s BS, bro,” Jackson told reporters, clearly shaken by the injury.
“I gave myself up, and I got kneed in the back … I can’t finish the game with my guys. It’s BS.” He recounted trying to return after a Toradol shot in the locker room, but the pain was too severe to continue, as reported by the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite the setback, Jackson expressed a hopeful outlook regarding his availability for the upcoming game, indicating he would undergo further testing and aiming to be ready for the Ravens’ must-win clash against Green Bay.
Baltimore’s latest loss drops the Ravens to 7–8 and places them behind rivals in the competitive AFC North. With time running out, the team’s postseason destiny now hinges not just on Jackson’s recovery but on a winning sequence of results in the weeks ahead.
