Slow it down Santa!

In an offbeat and heartwarming holiday moment capturing the Christmas spirit, a couple dressed as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus were pulled over for speeding by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday — and the resulting encounter has since gone viral on social media.

Deputies initially stopped the vehicle after noticing it traveling well above the posted limit through rural parts of Fulton County not far from the Ohio-Michigan border. But what began as a routine traffic stop quickly turned into a holiday-themed moment of levity when the deputy approached the driver’s window and realized the pair were in full Santa and Mrs. Claus attire.

“Santa!” the deputy is heard exclaiming in the sheriff’s body-worn camera video, which was later shared by the department on its official Facebook page and widely circulated online. The driver, also clad in a traditional red suit and white beard, responded with humor when asked if he had identification — at one point referencing his age and joking that “Santa’s 100 years old” while searching for his license.

Perhaps the most memorable moment came when the driver revealed he was carrying a concealed carry weapon (CCW), a legal requirement to disclose during a traffic stop in Ohio. The deputy laughed, quipping “Santa has a CCW? Times are rough,” prompting chuckles from everyone on the scene.

Mrs. Claus added to the fun with a light-hearted line about how “the North Pole isn’t what it used to be.”

Rather than issuing a citation, the deputy opted for a more festive approach: he gave the couple a friendly warning to slow down and urged caution during the busy holiday travel season. The exchange concluded with Mrs. Clause taking a cell phone pic of the deputy with Santa – and she promised to e-mail him the photo.

Afterwards, everyone wished the other “Merry Christmas” and the Claus couple continued on their way — reportedly to surprise their daughter at work.

The sheriff’s department captioned their social post with a clever holiday twist: “No coal was issued — just a friendly reminder that even sleighs need to slow down. Christmas is still on schedule! Stay safe and happy holidays!”

The light-hearted interaction resonated widely online, with many viewers appreciating the blend of festive fun and community-minded law enforcement at a time of year when such moments help bring communities together.
