(January 5, 2026) — Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke, 73, has taken the unusual step of publicly seeking financial help through GoFundMe to avoid eviction from his Los Angeles residence after falling nearly $60,000 behind on rent.

The fundraiser, titled “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home,” was launched on January 4 by Rourke’s friend and member of his management team, Liya-Joelle Jones, with the actor’s full permission. Its stated goal is $100,000 — intended not only to cover back rent but also to give Rourke “stability and peace of mind” during what his campaign describes as a “challenging financial moment,” according to People.

“Mickey Rourke is currently facing a very difficult and urgent situation: he is at risk of being evicted from his home,” the GoFundMe page states. “Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability.” ~ GoFundMe

According to the campaign and recent court filings, Rourke was served a three-day eviction notice on December 18, 2025, after allegedly failing to pay $59,100 in overdue rent for the rented property in Los Angeles. The monthly rent for the three-bedroom home — once occupied by novelist Raymond Chandler — reportedly started at $5,200 and later rose to $7,000.

While Rourke himself has not offered a detailed personal statement, the GoFundMe description — written with his approval — frames the situation as part of the ups and downs of a long and unconventional life and career: someone who “gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs.” The page emphasizes his right to “dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing.”

Jones, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, described the response from fans so far as “incredibly touching,” underlining how supporters have rallied around the campaign’s emotional appeal.

As of this writing, Rourke’s campaign has received thousands of small donations from fans and members of the public since its launch, demonstrating a broad grassroots response to Rourke’s plight. The current total thus far stands at $54,201 – or 55% of his financial goal.

Rourke is perhaps best known for his Golden Globe–winning turn in The Wrestler (2008), which also earned him an Academy Award nomination, as well as earlier roles in Pope of Greenwich Village, 9½ Weeks, Sin City, and Iron Man 2. He first rose to prominence as one of Hollywood’s most magnetic leading men in the 1980s before a self-described mid-career hiatus to pursue professional boxing.

In recent years, Rourke has made headlines beyond his film work. In 2025, he participated in the British reality TV series Celebrity Big Brother UK but was ejected early due to a string of controversial remarks and behavior, including comments widely condemned as homophobic — a controversy he later publicly acknowledged and expressed regret over.

Rourke also made the headlines in recent years for some bad plastic surgery, primarily to fix facial damage from his boxing career that drastically altered his looks, making him nearly unrecognizable and which did have a negative impact on his acting career until his acclaimed role in The Wrestler. He admitted to going to “the wrong guy” for his nose (five operations), cheekbone reconstruction, and other fixes, which stemmed from both boxing injuries and vanity, leading to regret and a long journey to correct the damage.

The fact that his GoFundMe campaign has already raised tens of thousands of dollars toward its hopeful target of $100,000 target, may be a sign that his fans remain invested in his welfare despite the ups and downs of his public life. Whether the campaign will be sufficient to stave off eviction and resolve the landlord dispute remains to be seen, with legal proceedings on unpaid rent and related fees still moving forward.
