‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother missing in Arizona: Police investigate possible kidnapping

(February 3, 2026) Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s “Today” show, is grappling with a family crisis after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing from her home in Arizona early this week. Authorities have stated that the situation is being treated as a possible kidnapping, with her home now designated as an active crime scene.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her residence in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Saturday night.. Her husband reportedly woke up the following morning to find the home ransacked, and Nancy gone, with signs of a forced entry. Police believe that she was taken against her will, and homicide detectives are now involved in the investigation due to the severity of the case.
“We are doing everything we can to locate Mrs. Guthrie,” said Detective Renee Blakemore of the Scottsdale Police Department in a statement. “This is a very serious situation. We’re treating this as a potential abduction, and we have increased our efforts to find her.”
The investigation has drawn attention not only because of the high-profile nature of the case but also due to the disturbing circumstances surrounding the disappearance. Forensic teams are combing through evidence from the crime scene, and authorities are reviewing nearby security footage to gather clues on who might have been involved.
Savannah Guthrie, who has been a staple of morning television for years, spoke publicly on the situation, expressing her heartbreak and concern for her mother’s well-being. “This is an unimaginable situation, and I am pleading for anyone who knows anything to come forward,” she said. “We are focused on bringing my mom home safely, and we are grateful for the support from law enforcement and the community.” On Monday, the concerned daughter also went on to say:
“thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. ”Bring her home.” ~ The Associated Press
Making the missing mom’s situation even more dire, she was spirited away from her home will without her life-saving medications. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, it’s imperative that Nancy Guthrie be found soon because she could die without her meds – and he urged whoever has her to set her free.
“If she’s alive right now her meds are vital. I can’t stress that enough. It’s been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us if she doesn’t have those meds, it can become fatal,” Nanos said.
As of this writing, there has been no ransom demand, leaving authorities to consider all possible motives, including personal grievances or a targeted attack. Several people connected to Lynne Guthrie’s personal life have been interviewed, but no arrests have been made yet. Officials went on to say that Nancy’s missing is not dementia related, and that the woman is “Sharp as a tack.”
The case is continuing to develop as police gather more evidence, and the public is being urged to stay vigilant.
