A female fugitive accused of murder and newly added to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list was apprehended in Florida less than 24 hours later.  KaShawn Nicola Roper, 50, was arrested on the morning of April 15, 2026, in High Springs, Florida.

Her arrest followed a wave of tips received shortly after the FBI publicly announced her addition to the list the previous day, along with a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her capture.  The $1 million reward was announced on April 14, with her arrest occurring the next day

Authorities say Roper had been on the run for nearly six years in connection with an August 23, 2020, shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. Investigators allege she fired multiple shots at a vehicle during an altercation, striking two women and killing one. She was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, with an additional federal charge for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

According to officials, tips from the public helped pinpoint Roper’s location in Florida, where local and federal agencies quickly coordinated efforts. A routine traffic stop conducted by the High Springs Police Department ultimately led to her arrest, with assistance from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.

FBI officials emphasized the significance of the rapid arrest, noting the critical role of community cooperation and interagency coordination. The case marks the 502nd capture of a fugitive from the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list since its inception in 1950—and one of the fastest following a suspect’s addition.

Roper is currently in custody and is expected to face prosecution in Missouri. Authorities reiterated that the charges against her are allegations, and her guilt will be determined in court.
