Suspect arrested in fatal Capitol Heights shooting that claimed life of 19-year-old Waldorf teen

A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a deadly February shooting in Capitol Heights is now waking up behind bars. Roland Andre Carter Jr., who authorities said has no fixed address, faces first- and second-degree murder charges in the killing of 19-year-old Ky-Mari Bowman of Waldorf.
The shooting occurred on Feb. 4, 2026, at about 3:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Abel Avenue in the Town of Capitol Heights. Responding officers found Bowman outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
According to investigators, homicide detectives used multiple investigative techniques to identify Carter as a suspect and secure an arrest warrant. Carter was taken into custody Wednesday in Washington, D.C., by U.S. Park Police officers during an unrelated stop.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a dispute and that Carter and Bowman were acquainted. Carter remains jailed in Washington pending extradition to Prince George’s County, where he will face murder and related charges.
The investigation remains active, and detectives are continuing efforts to identify and arrest a second suspect believed to be connected to the case.
