Hagerstown woman arrested in fatal July 5 shooting; Second murder suspect still at large

A Hagerstown woman has been arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of a local man, while authorities continue searching for a second suspect who remains at large.

The Hagerstown Police Department announced that Cierra Candice Bryant, 39, of Hagerstown, was taken into custody without incident on July 9 during an operation involving city police officers and the Washington County Special Response Team. Bryant was served with an arrest warrant charging her with first-degree murder and other related offenses tied to the July 5 homicide.

Bryant is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

Police are still seeking Michael Timothy Wilder, 38, of Hagerstown, who has also been charged with first-degree murder and additional related offenses in the same case. Investigators are urging anyone with information about Wilder’s whereabouts to contact Detective Jason Ackerman of the Hagerstown Police Department at (301) 790-3700, ext. 242, or submit an anonymous tip by email to crimetip@hagerstownpd.org .

The victim has been identified as Dalonte Dametrius Young, 30, of Hagerstown.

According to investigators, officers responded to the first block ofEast Antietam Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Young suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hagerstown Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit quickly launched a homicide investigation, ultimately identifying Bryant and Wilder as suspects and obtaining arrest warrants charging both with first-degree murder and related offenses.

Police have described the shooting as an isolated incident and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains active. Authorities noted that the case has received support through the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN), a statewide initiative that assists law enforcement agencies in investigating violent crime, gangs, firearms offenses, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other organized criminal activity.
