New ‘Clayface’ trailer unveils DC Studios’ chilling horror take on a classic Batman supervillain
DC Studios has released a new trailer for “Clayface,” offering fans a darker look at one of Batman’s most iconic villains in what is being billed as the studio’s first full-fledged horror film.
The original trailer released three months ago (below) went viral upon its release.

Directed by James Watkins, the film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a rising Hollywood actor whose promising career is shattered after a brutal attack leaves him severely disfigured. Seeking an experimental treatment to restore his appearance, Hagen instead undergoes a horrifying transformation that grants him shape-shifting abilities while slowly unraveling his grip on reality, setting him on a path of vengeance.
The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James. The screenplay is by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on a story by Flanagan and DC characters.
Promoting the newly released trailer, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn shared the message, “Meet the new face of Gotham,” while confirming the film’s theatrical release to be on October 23, 2026.
Originally introduced in Detective Comics in 1940, Clayface has become one of Batman’s enduring adversaries. DC Studios has emphasized that the film serves as the villain’s origin story within the new DC Universe, while also distinguishing itself from traditional superhero films through its psychological and body-horror approach.
