Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is in “critical but stable condition,” according to statements released Sunday, May 3, 2026, by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman. Goodman said that the 81-year-old Giuliani is currently receiving medical care but did not disclose the cause of his hospitalization, the facility where he is being treated, or further details about his prognosis.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said, adding that the family has asked for prayers and privacy.

What We Know About His Condition:  Officials describe Giuliani’s status as “critical but stable,” a medical designation indicating a serious condition that is not currently worsening. However, no specific diagnosis or timeline for recovery has been made public. The lack of detail has left questions about the underlying cause of his hospitalization.

Donald Trump confirmed the hospitalization in a social media post, calling Giuliani a “true warrior” and praising his resilience. Trump called Giuliani the “Best Mayor” in New York City’s history and went on to say:

“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition. What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”  ~

Other public figures, including current New York City officials, have also issued statements wishing him a full recovery.

Background and Career:  Rudy Giuliani rose to national prominence as New York City’s mayor from 1994 to 2001, earning the nickname “America’s Mayor” for his leadership in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Before that, he served as a U.S. attorney, known for prosecuting organized crime and corruption cases.

In later years, Giuliani became a close political ally of Donald Trump, serving as his personal attorney and a key adviser. He played a central role in legal efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election—actions that led to significant legal scrutiny, including disbarment proceedings in New York and Washington, D.C., and criminal charges in some states, which he has denied.

Despite recent controversies, Giuliani has remained an influential and polarizing figure in American politics.  As of now, his medical condition remains serious, with updates expected as more information becomes available.
